BY KS DESIGN AND IN COOPERATION WITH CIAC GROUP, ITALY

If you are thinking about modernizing your home soon, you have come to the right place! KS Design have consulted with the top Italian designers to find out what interior design styles will be trending in 2021.

Interior design trends in 2021 will introduce a new age of sustainable design whether this is for furniture or fashion. Innovative bioplastic and organic materials which are environmental-friendly will be a main trend. Designers are challenged to create unique pieces with unusual materials.

1. Dark Blue/Naval Colour

The new 2021 colour trend will be a dark, naval blue. This colour tone is the new black, which is certain to help you create an elegant and contemporary living space.

This colour is weighty but also very versatile, considering that it is able to adapt to a lot of colour schemes, regardless of room or decorating style. Its dramatic hue immediately captures the eye in any room, causes lighter and brighter colours to pop, and is quite the popular option for coastal, classic and contemporary style projects.

Colours that go with navy: Whites, brights, beiges and neutrals.

2. Light Coloured Woods

A design involving light-coloured woods is certain to lighten up your home. Inspired from the Scandinavian style, this design will not only be used for flooring, but also for walls and ceilings. In its raw colour and aesthetic, this light-coloured wood will be a highlight for multipurpose spaces.

Some design tips by KD Design are: (1) Pair light coloured wood with bright exposed brick walls and pops of navy accents to create a light yet modern mood. (2) Secondly, you can subdue your interior with walls in white and furniture in grey, as your light-wooden furniture warms the space. (3) Use pastel colours throughout your interior to soften the light coloured wooden elements, adding Scandinavian bookshelves and black-framed prints.

3. Sustainable Modern Designs

At such times, there is an urgent need for developing solution that are sustainable and eco-friendly. 2021 trends will include new and innovative bioplastics materials, reusable and environment-friendly materials. This year, designers are challenged to create unique pieces with new and unusual material.

A sustainable space, is one which uses the least possible negative impact on the environment. This means energy efficiency, avoiding environmental toxins, using materials, and resources in a responsible manner while having a positive physical and psychological impact on its inhabitants.

Some popular ‘sustainable design trends’ are prefabricated houses, “Cargotecture” (building homes using recycled shipping containers), and “Smart homes”.

4. Interior Gardens

Decorating with plants allows you to nurture your inner creativity while adding unique and inspired elements to every room and space in your home or office.

Having an indoor garden can give you many benefits, from aesthetic beauty to improved health and productivity. Increasing your daily contact with nature will not only lighten up your home, but also allow you to live a brighter life. They also offer a wide range of ecological and economic advantages, such as improving the indoor climate and atmosphere of any room.

The benefits of interior design with plants are also an added bonus. Plants can help clean and filter the air in your space, reduce stress, boost mood and productivity as well as reduce major health concerns. Now more than ever, the art of gardening and interior decorating with plants is being adapted for spaces of all styles and sizes.

5. Natural Elements

Enjoy natural, outdoor vibes inside your home by decorating your interior with organic-based materials.

Natural and organic elements are a decor trend that can strengthen the human-nature connection. Materials such as wood, cotton, leather and sea grass are a few natural elements that KS Design suggests. You can also use real wood and genuine stone to generate a warm, cozy feel.

6. Statement Pieces

Bold and distinctive items ranging from furniture to art will grab attention and dictate your decor scheme. Our Italian experts and partners recommend keeping a luxury, minimal design and more clear spaces, which are decorated with statement pieces. Such works of art are always in fashion, and they can make any room more sophisticated and bold.

Statement pieces can transform a room, giving a boost to an otherwise bland interior, whilst also reflecting your personality and style.

7. Industrial Interior Design

In contrast to the 2020 mid-century modern style trend, the style most popular in 2021 will be industrial for multi-purpose environments. Millennials will choose open-space rooms that are functional and embrace the worn, natural, recycled, and organic.

Industrial design is all about displaying building materials that are traditionally covered. It is all about creating a raw, unfinished look; think warehouse conversions, Soho lofts with big windows, cute corner shops turned into homes, and little London apartments. What we love about this style is that even if you are not lucky enough to live in an awesome, converted space, you can still make the most of the look. With industrial, you can go all out or just incorporate certain elements into your home decoration.
