GAUDI-INSPIRED OUTDOOR FURNITURE COLLECTION

This Gaudi-inspired outdoor furniture is like art for the garden.

“Visiting Gaudí’s iconic Parque Güell in Barcelona many years ago had a profound impact on me,” explains the interior designer Kelly Behun. “I have been in thrall to mosaic as an art form ever since. Despite it being composed of bits of hard stone, there is a fluidity to the material that is compelling. It lends itself to customisation quite beautifully.”

Gaudi’s dizzyingly vibrant work is one component of Behun’s design inspiration for a striking new collection of outdoor furniture, created in collaboration with the e-tailer The Invisible Collection, which makes bespoke creations by globally renowned contemporary designers accessible to a wider, global audience.

From bright mosaic tables to bleached mahogany furniture, the collection emulates Kelly Behun Studio’s highly stylised approach to interior design & home accessories. It was produced as a response to what Behun saw as an absence of high-end, bespoke outdoor furniture across the design industry.

“We love the boldness and femininity of Kelly’s work; it is always emotional on some level,” says Anna Zaoui, co-founder of The Invisible Collection. “She can pair cutting edge artworks with unexpected pieces of furniture and surprise you with every new project. She ‘belongs’ with The Invisible Collection.”

She has incorporated unusual silhouettes and material combinations into the collection; as well as Gaudi, she drew inspiration from the work of Italian designer Carlo Bugatti.

Behun notes too that she wanted one of the mosaic coffee tables “to appear as though it was growing up from the carpet it sits on,” and that “in person, it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.” Elsewhere, intricate carving details – highly unusual in outdoor furniture designs – lend the pieces a timeless heirloom quality. The resulting pieces are beautifully rendered statement pieces that look so good you might want to keep them indoors.
